contraindications
  • Anuria (patient produces no urine)
dosing

Oral, IV: 20 to 40 mg

Oral or IV push

notes
  • Acute kidney injury: Loop diuretics, including furosemide, may lead to acute kidney injury due to fluid loss
  • Fluid/electrolyte loss: May lead to profound diuresis, resulting in hypovolemia and electrolyte loss. Electrolyte disturbances (eg, hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, hypomagnesemia) may predispose a patient to serious cardiac arrhythmias.

adverse reactions

    • There is a theoretical cross-reactivity between sulfa antibiotic and furosemide, however this may not actually occur, or the risk is extremely low
