dosing

IV, IM, IO: 1 mcg/kg, maximum 100 mcg, repeat every 10 minutes for persistent pain to a max total dose of 200 mcg

Administer slowly over 1 to 2 minutes; rapid IV infusion may result in skeletal muscle and chest wall rigidity, impaired ventilation, or respiratory distress/arrest.

  • Reversal: Opiate antagonist drugs (naloxone) oxygen and resuscitation equipment should be readily available during the administration of fentanyl
